World Cup Tennis and BBQ

Thank you to those involved in organising Monday's World Cup Tennis Tournament. The day was a lot of fun and the quality of the BBQ meat was better than what had previously been on offer at similar Club events. I think the event is worth a repeat.

I would only suggest keeping the bar open longer next time around!

Booking of floodlit courts

I would like to endorse what Peter Woods said earlier in the year with regard to floodlit court bookings being difficult for many whose work or life patterns prevent booking. Also I agree wtih Mike Lill re the quality of our floodlights. I know a lot of new members are disappointed that it will be difficult for them to play tennis during the winter. We need more floodlit courts, especially with courts "out" for coaching on Mondays, and the last few weeks, for juniors at 6.30 on Wednesdays.

Court Availability

Through this media I would like to thank Roy for negotiating and obtaining the excellent floodflit facillities at the LTA National Tennis Centre. The only downside for me is the comparison with the floodlights at Surbiton . I understand that the possibility of improving our lights is restricted by planning permission requirements but would love to see lower difused lights if only our neighbours would relent.

Return of the Plate competition and Roy's Bar

Myself and some fellow members, who faced an early exit from the top of the range closed tennis doubles tournament, wondered if it would be possible to have a return of the fine Plate this year? £12 for one game of tennis (on top of the membership fee) appears a bit steep given the economic downturn.

After Roy’s many years of loyal service to the Club, should we name the bar after him?

Problems with Booking of Floodlit Courts

I presume that I am not alone in being unable to reserve a floodlit court. Unless you are on the phone at 9.30am or sitting on the PC hitting the refresh key, it seems that you have little hope. There does seem to be a 'hardcore' monopoly that reserve the premium courts (7 & 8), perhaps as the floodlit court season comes to an end it is time to reconsider how these courts can be more fairly distributed amongst those members whose work and home commitments mean that they are very limited to when they can use the clubs facilities?
