Rules & etiquette

1. HOURS OF PLAY
The hours of play shall be from 9.00am on the hard courts and 10.30am on grass courts, or later if the groundsman is required to put the courts in order, until 9.30pm for the hard courts (9pm on Sundays) or in the case of the grass courts when the whistle is blown by the Duty Manager to terminate play for the day.

2. AVAILABILITY OF COURTS (ITEMS 2 - 5)
The decision as to the fitness of the courts for play at any time shall rest with the groundsman and / or the Club Director.

3. The courts may be taken over, partly or entirely, for events and arrangements approved by the Executive Committee and/or Tennis Sub-Committee. Notices of events are to be posted in the Club House at least fourteen days before any such event. A number of courts may from time-to-time be reserved for matches arranged by the Tennis Sub-Committee. One court other than a floodlit court shall be reserved for the use of the Club Coach at the discretion of the Tennis Sub-committee.

4. The Club reserves the right to hire, from time to time, such courts as it shall deem appropriate to professional tennis players on terms that shall be agreed between the Club Director and the relevant players.

5. The Club will be responsible for organising social tennis sessions. In the summer, subject to item 3, these will be held on all the grass courts and as many hard courts as required at the following times :
Monday 6.00pm - 8.00pm
Saturday 2.00pm - 5.00pm
In the winter, subject to item 3, when the hard courts only will be used, the time of the sessions shall be as follows:
Sunday 1.30pm -4.30pm
Saturday 1.30pm - 4.30pm

6. COURT BOOKING
Subject to item 8 below, all courts must be booked on the appropriate board immediately prior to play. Such bookings may only be made for the first available period of the court concerned. Any court shall be vacated when those playing have completed 45 minutes. A player may book only one session at a time. (If a court booking system is in operation, the Tennis Committee have the right to alter or change the above rules on bookings and will display these changes for all Tennis Members on the Tennis board.)

7. DRESS
Only tennis clothing may be worn and  tennis shoes. Lycra shorts may be worn underneath skirts or shorts. Tracksuits may be worn if required.

8. FLOODLIT COURTS
Some courts have floodlighting facilities and these courts may be booked for specific sessions lasting one and a half hours. Courts may be booked up to two weeks in advance. All bookings can be made at the Club House or by telephone after 9.30am. Cancellation due to adverse weather is acceptable, however cancellation for any other reason within forty-eight hours of the time of the booking shall render the member who made the booking liable for the full court fee.
